certificate field
Subject key identifier
What it means
A short fingerprint of this certificate's public key, used to reference it from other certificates.
Why it matters
Chain building uses it: a child certificate's Authority Key Identifier should equal its parent's Subject Key Identifier. When chains misbehave, compare these two fields.
